PostSubject: The Bump Thread   The Bump Thread I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 10, 2009 7:50 pm

Ok then! I'm at work! I'm bored! It's dead!

So what are my choices? Well, I can either watch the next episode of Inuyasha, take a nap (or two), or post stupid stuff!!
To be totally honest, I will probably be completing all those choices, but let's start with stupid stuff.

Sooo... you may be wondering what a "Bump Thread" is.
It is a tool for controlled spam and a way to elevate your post count. It's a place to go when you're bored.

What are the rules of a bump thread? Well, not many.
1. All board rules are in effect.
2. If you were the last one to post, you must wait for someone else to post before you post again.
3. You have to post something. Don't just say "bump". Post a pic, a story, how your day is going, a joke. Something!
4. Don't forget to BUMP! bounce

So, what's my contribution to the bump tread? I posted the rules. bounce

PostSubject: Redemption. The Short Story from Scandal   The Bump Thread I_icon_minitimeSat Apr 11, 2009 2:04 am

A story eh? Hmm....*Rummages*

Ah, here's one. One of my shorter pieces...I have others, so if you'd like me to post a particular genre let me know, I have sci fi, romance, actiion, just about everything. Maybe one of these days I'll write one about us =P

A tumbleweed rolled across the rain soaked roadway. The old worn boots sank into the mud, one followed by the other. A long duster trailed in the mud as he stood statue still at the head of the small town. His head hung low, hands resting on the butts of the twin revolvers hanging low on his hips, their belts filled with ammo, crossing. A flat crowned hat kept his face dry from the rain falling around him. Slowly, deliberately, he made his way towards the boardwalk, towards the lively saloon. With an effort he pulled his hands from his guns and let his duster fall over them. He pushed the batwing doors open and smiled at the silence.

Across one wall, a dirty old mirror recalled his image. He was dressed in a brown, bloodstained duster and muddy broken boots. A white shirt, long since stained by the sins of others met his dusty old jeans. The flat crowned hat (also stained) was still dripping water. Long dark hair framed his face along with a layer of three day old stubble. Silver-grey eyes shot a glare at the patrons before the man made his way towards the bar. There he took a seat, his seat. The bartender came by “Can I get somethin’ fer ya stranger?” His voice trembled slightly.

“Stranger?” The man at the bars’ voice was cold and dark. “Don’t play stupid with me boy. You know damn full well who I am, and what they call me.”

“Yessir I do." As if rehearsed he began to ramble "Your name is unimportant, and your eyes are silver as the moon. They call you the Renegade. And you come to keep us pure.” The bartender gave a small bow and reached beneath the counter, producing a jug of whiskey.

The Renegade reached out, causing the barkeep to flinch as he picked the jug up. “So let me ask you something.” He said as he swallowed a small swig. “How have you been?”

“I’ve been good sir.” Again, another bow.

“That is good, been with any women?” The Renegades voice was soft, barely audible.

“Uh, yessir, I have.” His voice was beginning to shake a little more.

“Any unintentional children conceived?” The Renegade took another swig.

“Nosir, not that I’m aware of.” The bartenders hands were shaking.

“What about Jerimiah? Was he planned?” the Renegade gave a small sneer.

“Why yessir.” The bartender began to relax a little.

“You lie.”

“What?”

Before the man behind the bar could think about moving, the heavy revolver was out of its holster, the hammer thumbed back and the trigger released. Thunder filled the room as a hole ripped open the barkeeps head. A few of the females screamed as the Renegade re-holstered his revolver. With an absent hand he wiped a small grayish chunk of brain from his cheek. He smiled and took another swig from the jug.

A few of the younger men shifted, one reached for his gun, not minding the warning whispered from his elders. His gun was out with lightning speed, he pulled the hammer back and prepared to pull the trigger, but it was too late. He already had a hole blown in his stomach, a bleeding portal to the other side. The Renegade shifted, removing the gun from under his arm to fall back into its holster.

Whispers in the corner. The Renegade knew exactly what they were whispering about, the legends of the elder folk.

“He came some two hunnred years ago, or so the stories say. He came in a perfectly tailored outfit, that one he’s wearing now, but it was clean. Nobody saw him arrive, nobody was around to see him leave. He came into this saloon, sat where he’s sitting now. The town constable come though, asks him what he was doing here. He says ‘I’m here to perform the art of purification.’ Well none of them know what he’s talking bout, so Cleatus, he was the minister at the time, speaks up, he says ‘What in the name of the heavenly spirit are you talking bout?’ Well, that man, he just turns and he says. ‘The heavenly spirit?’ An my gran-daddy, he tol me this because he was there.” The young faces gathered around all grew soft, hanging from every word “That man he says ‘Is that what you call it? When I’m from’ and yes, he said when ‘When I’m from, we call it prostitution.’ Well Cleatus just lookit him all slack jawed like. The man, he says ‘In the name of purity, I cast thee into purgatory.’ an just like that he kilt him, just like that. The constable is just shocked, he says ‘Son, whats your name, I’m takin’ you in.’ An that man, he just smiles, and that smile sends chills through my gran-daddy’s bones. He says ‘My name is not important, what is important is that my eyes are as silver as the moon, I am here to keep you pure, and you will address me as Renegade. You will always remember this day, and every anniversary of this day, as the day your town was purified.’ The next time he come back my momma was pregnant with me, that’s the only reason I’m here, that and I’ve kept my nose out of the mud.” The old man, with the sad blue eyes fell silent and appeared to utter a prayer beneath his breath.

“How fast is he sir?” One of the more daring boys asked, in a breathy voice.

“He’s faster than sheet lightnin’ boys, don’t you go getting no ideas neither.” The old man spoke but it was too late.

The boy jumped up, the quickest quick draw in his age. He unleashed three shots in the direction of the Renegade, but the man was gone. Splinters flew and people hurriedly stood, drawing their guns. Hell on earth followed.

The boys’ shots blew three craters in the bar where the Renegade had been sitting. A second later, someone protecting their own hide blew a hole in the chest of the hot head. As always, when bullets start flying in a town like this, they are always answered by more bullets. Soon bullets were ripping through walls and windows, occasionally a shotgun blast deafened the pistols for a moment, then the shooting would resume.

Up the stairs the Renegade reloaded his two spent rounds that he had fired and began to walk slowly down the stairs. A massive gleaming revolver held in each hand. At the base of the stairs his lips parted. “In the name of purity, I send you all into purgatory.”

He stepped around the corner, lightning erupted from the barrels in twelve thunderous cracks. Twelve new bodies lay bleeding on the floor. With nimble fingers he rolled the cylinders out and tipped the guns back. Twelve empty shells fell to the floor. Quickly he pulled twelve new rounds from his belts and slammed them home. His fingertips held reddened rings from the searing heat on the chambers. To his left a man rose from his place behind the now ruined bar with a shotgun in his hand. The Renegade flipped the cylinders back into place, leveled his left arm on the man, thumbed back the hammer and fired. Blood gushed like a volcano from the stump of his neck. On that moment, the world went silent, no gunshots, no cries of pain. The Renegade smiled to himself and headed for the doors, where the rain had stopped falling.

With guns still trailing smoke he walked down the boardwalk. His boots thunked and echoed throughout the town. He pushed open the first door he came to. The thick smells of grain and leather wafted to him. He stepped into the livery onto the hay. His nostrils twitched, a new smell for an old place. He hesitated, then looked under his right boot heel. Just as he had assumed, a small trail of gunpowder leading to an overturned jug of kerosene. He smiled and tipped his head back. A laugh like a heavy rainstorm reverberated from deep within his chest.

A flare of his boot broke the trail of gunpowder as he stepped deeper into the stable. “Come out come out wherever you are. I promise I won’t hurt you.” Already he was lying, the hammers of both revolvers were primed, ready to fire.
A piece of straw snapped somewhere behind the renegade. Like quicksilver he turned and fired. The stall door to his left exploded in a shower of splinters, the man on the other side had been sheered in half as the bullet ripped through his spine. Behind him two more doors slammed open. He judged their distance by their sound and turned, dropping in time to miss the bullets that followed. He dropped to one knee and let four bullets fly. Screams came from the wounded young men as their legs were blown apart at the kneecaps. The Renegade approached and stood over them.

“Go, purgatory awaits you.” The boys trembled in fear as the barrel of a revolver was placed to each of their foreheads.

The renegade walked out, blood still running in small rivulets down his duster. Door after door, the same ritual, only sparing those who were pregnant, young children, and the pure. At the last door, heading back out of town, he holstered his guns, then stepped inside. Blood dripped in heavy blotches from the tips of his coat, and from the brim of his hat. “I thank thee again for your service.”

“It is for the protection of my family, not for you.” The man with the sad blue eyes let his head hang.
Old broken boot heels sank into the blood soaked ground as the Renegade walked out. A single tumbleweed rolled across the ground

You can says *BUMP*, but better to bounce

Ok, I have read your story. I have to say, it was very had to read the red font on the dark background, especially with the smaill font. Had to select the whole thing just to see it. That was a bit annoying.

Other than that, I love short stories. I'm more into the fantasy genre myself. I thought you did a great job in setting the mood and tone of the story. At the end there, I wasn't sure who he was talking too, kinda unclear (at least to me). Really kinda short on plot, but it had atmosphere. There is a short story I would recommend to you (not so short, really kind of a novella) called "Home is the Hangman" by Roger Zelazney. I'm trying to find a link to see if it's online, but no joy yet.

Ok, So I'm really enjoying this whole, being able to share my work with other thing. The only other people who have read these are my friend Megan, a fellow writer, and the class I had to write them for.

I'm working on a Shayia based one now, something involving us, or at least some of us. If you have Idea's you'd like to contribute, just let me know =)

That's a good idea. So here's my idea so far, using Scan as the main character (at least at first) then meeting everyone along the way. Now, if you want me to use a particular toon over another, let me know, also, if you want to have some kind of quirk, or behavioral pattern, that would be appreciated also. Otherwise, I'll make something up and you'll just have to deal with it =P bounce

So here's what I've got so far on characters:

Dagmar: The Fighter with an attitude to match. More than willing to throw herself into a fray no matter the odds. Packrat.

Renegade: I'm not sure which toon you want me to use XD

Scandal: Mage with an Identity crisis. Main Character. Nuke.

Diaspro (..n00blet.. from the Guild) The fighter who really doesn't care about winning or losing.

(Evil)Savior: Might mod your name a little bit, sounds a little....comic bookish. Da Priest.

Leelou: Tactical Mage, uses strategy instead of brute force.

Hastur: Medic.

Tankster & Fatina: The two who got Scandal started on his path, and pushed him onward.

As for the story line, I'm thinking of starting it as an epic fight for our lives. Perhaps against a dragon, or asmo. Then flashback to a time before everyone else, just Scandal. I might even do it in installments (Ch 1, ch 2...etc.) Or I can put it all together and publish it all at once. Your pick. bounce
